What's Your Word?

I was inspired this week to come up with a 2018 Word of the Year. (Thanks, Audrey & Vera!)

As they say, "What’s great about having a WORD is that you have a direction for the course of your year. You have a WORD to keep you motivated and inspired and moving forward. You have a WORD to think about and dream about and create goals around. It really is a powerful thing when you zone in on your WORD and embrace it with arms wide open!"

The more I thought about it, the more I loved this idea. So often we can get overwhelmed by the choices, what we see as a lack thereof, by the to do list, by the decisions. We lose focus and momentum and the doubts, anxiety, fear, and stress creeps in. And, quite frankly, a word or a sentiment is a lot easier to commit to than a list of resolutions.

With fertility struggles, in particular, it is easy to going through the motions. To routinely follow orders, treatment plans, and recommendations. To worry constantly. To feel "why me", jealousy and the unfairness.

We speed through without stopping to remember the big picture. The big vision. The why we're doing all of this. That we're building a family, not tracking numbers on a chart or from a lab.

So I offer this idea of identifying your word for 2018. One word to help you focus, to inspire, to bring you comfort and assurance you're on the right path - or the courage to find the path that's right for you.

This post has suggestions on how to choose your word for the year.

I'm still contemplating my 2018 word. I'll keep you posted.

In the meantime, I encourage you to find your own 2018 word and keep it front and center. To tell your partner or a close friend who can help you stay accountable. To lean on it in times of uncertainty. To find peace in its simplicity.
